Posting's been light, to say the least, and I still have to gather a few loose ends before I share the next installment of Elvis Costello gap-pluggers. And I'll be away for ten days so it won't be up 'til I get back.
In the meantime, here's an interesting show with Elvis and the Imposters and guests Death Cab For Cutie, Fiona Apple, and Billie Joe Armstrong. This is not the complete concert, but the songs broadcast on VH1. In the gap-plugger post, I plan to share the withdrawn iTunes single of Fiona's killer version of I Want You, which here shares a single track with another song. Meanwhile, here's an enjoyable set with some unusual material... or should I say, some Rare Stuff!

we can't afford cable TV so thanks VERY much for this!
ReplyDeleteHey, I have a question about a EC TV special I remember seeing some years ago - see if it jogs your memory. I cannot remember what the show was called, but it featured EC only being interviewed about his music by some guy i can't remember either (sorry), and playing some tunes solo. It would have been just pre-When i Was Cruel, i think, as EC was using a lot of effects and gadgets - he had a Line 6 POD set up, and did an AMAZING version of Watching The Detectives at the end of the show.
ReplyDeleteANY ideas what it WAS?????
PC here under alias: Nope, but it sounds great! Maybe poking around on the Elvis Costello wiki would turn up some info on this, and is loads of fun to browse anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, I've been wanting to check it out.
ReplyDeletethe special in question sounds similar to the video A Cause For Song (or A Case For Song i forget which it is). that came out a little earlier than you're saying, so it might not be exactly what you're talking about, but it does include an awesome solo version of Watching The Detectives. it came out around the same time as All This Useless Beauty and has a lot of neat stuff especially some stuff with The Brodsky Quartet including a string and vocal version of "Pills And Soap" and a cover of "God Only Knows". definitely worth checking out. and there's slightly different songs depending on whether you find the vhs or dvd version.
